Default Ascension

Just a few days ago, I ascended! I was so happy that I decided why not help some people get to where I am? Heck, I'm a Monk and can heal people why they finish the mission, easy, Right? So I did two or three missions with random people when I get to one place and I broadcast my message "MO/E20 (ASCENDED) HEALER helping people through the mission" when some "snobby" person says "Pfft, ascension doesn't take anything! Noob, you only need 12K exp for level 20!".

I don't know about you, but this is a shock to me! The people that have "Truely Ascended" in the game should at least be seperated by these "Level 20s", something to show that other players that we have gone through Four mind bending challenges on Guild Wars.

I talked to this with a friend and he though it would be cool if the players that have ascended get some sort of specail "Aura" making their character "Glow" to show others that we are experienced players.

But then I thought about this idea...

Remember the Divine Fire you need to enter the Rock? Why not just have that holy fire surronding our characters?

I would like to have feedback on my suggestion and maybe even some changes if it sees fit =D

I don't know... I'd get very annoyed very quickly if my character was glowing all the time, or was on fire all the time...

Then maybe a change is in need?

Perhaps you could "Switch" on and off the glow if you choose to? It would be something like the glowing animals heads? You know, type /rank for it? Well what about /ascend?

I don't think a glow would be a wise idea, as some people prefer not to have so much graphical data to process... just think about walking into Dragon's Lair and seeing everyone glowing?

I think a non-graphical approach is more practical. Perhaps they should add something to the character's name on party lists. Put some type of symbol next to your Profession and level, maybe something like "E/Me20 (A) Zell Murasame".

And they could even go further and do that with characters that have beaten Hell's Precipice.

You know what, your right.

I never thought about other people's graphic cards >.< (Since I run on ATI I don't have many problems).

But I do like your idea of have the (A) beside you name.. I think it would be a really good idea..!

You know I was thinking about this the other day, would be good to at least add a (A).

At least that way we could tell who was Ascended or not, make grouping in the Temple of Ages much easier

dont mind them, or flame them back. Ascended or not, u all play the same game and enjoying the game. you help other people, that's good. Ascension is just part of the game progression and really doesn't mean that you are a great player.

I agree with Jigs. I dont find it that important to see if someone is ascended.

Level 20's: Suck. Did they actually get to level 20 doing quests and missions? No. They probably just failed a few hundred times at some easy mission and ended up getting too much exp.

Ascended Level 20's: You're nothing special either. The PvE is too easy. I could ascend with henchmen in a couple of days... And have (usually get to the desert at level 14-16).

I got to lv 20 by exploring and doing missions in the correct order. And I'm not ascended and since I don't have information on whats ahead... have no idea where that takes place and I just completed Riverside Providence but have explored all the way to Thunderhead.

There's a big difference in ascending too. When you fight your mirror it definitely matters what class you are. A Warrior beets a mirror before he even knows what he is doing (like they ever know what there doing :P). An elementalist just uses barrage spells and will have no problem either.
But with my ranger I had to do it about 10 times (eventually outsmarted the AI and took him down under a minute ). So for a Warrior it might look very simple but for a ranger its definitely not (at least not if you want the bonus too)

Necro mirrors are fun you really have to trick them, mesmer takes a little thought to trick it.

I do liike the idea of an ascend emote. would be cool to see the divine fire flare up for a moment. heck it would be worth it just to make sure i have a full team able to go to FoW/UW.

that and the rank emote would be fun.

I know what you mean, first time i ascended, i thought finally i've done it im now ascended! I did used to want more to show for it. Now it's really not such a big thing though. If you are ascended on that character, the chances are you're not going to be going back on that character very often, so everyone after ascension would be going round with an (A) next to their name, it wouldn't mean much to me.

As for /rank, i think thats something to be proud of which people have worked towards. Maybe you could see it as another reward for those in pve, after ascension you can begin to compete in the Tomb. But i can still see why this isn't such a big thing to some people as a pvp character can be made for the tomb any time.

I disagree with the Ranger, Snuk - I just took all my useless Spirit skills to fill in 7 slots, and a meaty damage dealer skill for the 8th slot.

The Ranger Doppleganger would waste the crucial first 30-40 seconds generating every single spirit in my build while I was spamming my damage dealer skill - easily got the bonus this way.

As for the idea of adding an (A) or a (*) for ascended players, that sounds very reasonable, particularly when it comes to grouping in ToA, as several unascended players can access ToA and use it as a stepping stone for the Villany of Galrath quest. If there are several of these unascended at ToA when Europe is in favour, it makes it that much more confusing to organise a team.

As for completing Hells Precipice, I guess that's not so crucial, but still would be nice - It gives a sense of achievement beyond an otherwise mundane 1000 exp (2000 with bonus) and shows that you have beaten the primary element of the PvE. I mean, the only other visible indication of attaining something special is by buyine 15k armour, and with enough money, anyone can go from Ascalon to Marhans Grotto by paying runners (and cheaters buying their cash off Ebay probably would do this too!)

This is realy odd, because this was my second trie, and it didnt work with me. He did not put a single spirit on stage, he just shot me and killed me with his axe. Can someone confirm they had this too?

i just think they should incorporate more ascended-only aspects.. maybe make the seer infuse ones with the true sight only, or only allow ascended ones into the ToA.. just a few ideas.. im think the two new areas are ascended-only.. but i could be mistaken, even though im crossing my fingers i'm not! level 8s in grenths footprint would bug me

I think some people are making much ado about nothing. Being ascended or not is not so much of a difference. Actually I found the doppelganger the first real challenge in this game (My necro had to think about it and he managed to beat his DG only after 10 tries or so) but I wouldn't say I am a better player now that I could beat the DG... It's just another part of the game ....

I wonder what's the reason for people's urge for being different ... remember no-one is a noob, some people just have other things to do as well

I see your point. Ascension for strictly PvE players who have no interest in any aspect of WaW (Whether it is the tournament or the FoW/UW) is just a part of the storyline, and after that, it's business as usual.

And yeah, I can just imagine a fair few big-headed players who, after ascension, zap back to Ascalon city and walk around like lord or lady Muck, expecting all the lower level players to worship them in their wake, all because of an (A) in their level indicators...

But on the other hand, painstakingly assembling a good team for UW/FoW, only to be rejected because one team-member isn't ascended is a pain in the proverbials. As for Tournaments, well, you wouldn't be able to access them anyway without going through the Doppelganger fight and opening up Dragon's Lair on the map, so no biggie there....

...and in the grand scheme of things, something to show that you have reached a certain point and fulfilled a certain criteria in the game, such as Ascension, or Hell's Precipice would be a nice thing to work up to, even if there is no outward physical indication
